More and more gardeners are moving away from Roundup (glyphosate) for weed control. A simple vinegar-based solution provides a powerful alternative without the health and environment impacts.
Ingredients
- 1 cup household salt
- 1 tablespoon dish detergent
- 1 gallon distilled vinegar (you can increase the potency by using agricultural vinegar which has a higher acetic acid content. Find it at most home and garden stores).
Dissolve ingredients together over medium heat (no need to boil). After it cools, load up a spray bottle and have at it.
Choose a sunny, windless day to apply. Sunlight aids in drying out the weeds, and calm weather prevents unintended contact with neighboring plants (like Roundup, this solution is non-selective).
While this solution may not always kill the root, you can reapply as needed or target the root zone directly for thorough eradication.
